About
About Big Research Guide
A free, independent place to learn the basics of market research in plain English.
Why this site exists
Good research habits help small businesses avoid expensive guesses, and help students understand methods they are asked to use in projects. Much of the material on the subject is either written for specialists or wrapped around a sales pitch. This site aims to be neither: short, practical lessons that you can apply with a phone, a notebook and some patience.
Editorial approach
- Plain English first. Technical terms are explained when they appear and collected in the glossary.
- Original writing. Every guide is written for this site.
- No invented evidence. We do not quote made-up statistics, studies, people or testimonials. Where a worked example needs numbers, they are clearly labelled hypothetical.
- Rules of thumb are labelled as such. Simplifications, like the margin-of-error shortcut in the sampling guide, are flagged as approximations.
- Corrections welcome. If something is unclear or wrong, please get in touch and we will review it.
What this site is not
